•  Former Lake Tahoe area woman pleads to felony in Fresno

•  Falsified her tax returns

Gwen Noel Luckette, 59, formerly of South Lake Tahoe, got a nice little check from the IRS – a tax refund of $605,692.

But Ms. Luckette’s luck has run out. She’s pleaded guilty to filing a false claim with the IRS, says U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner.

According to court documents, Ms. Luckette filed a fraudulent 2008 tax return in July 2009 claiming excessive federal tax withholding and investment expenses that she did not incur. She had failed to file a return for the previous six years at least. As a result of the false tax return, she obtained a $605,692 refund.

Ms. Luckette now admits that she aided and abetted in the filing of the 2008 false tax return, Mr. Wagner says.

She is to be sentenced in December when she will face a possible maximum penalty of five years in prison, restitution, and a $250,000 fine.
